Little bunnies of joy: NICU babies celebrate Easter

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The staff at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children’s Hospital Colorado in Colorado Springs helped brighten the upcoming Easter holiday for the little ones and their families.

The Celebration Committee – a group of NICU nurses, support staff, and volunteers – aims to bring a semblance of normalcy and joy to families during what can be an incredibly challenging time. The staff helped its littlest patients mark the occasion with festive outfits, including bunny ears, bunny glasses, and frilly, fancy frocks.

“Our goal is to create special moments for our families who are spending time in the NICU and might not be able to celebrate their babies’ firsts otherwise,” said Erin Havrilla, MSN, RN, NE-BC, clinical nurse manager of the NICU. “Seeing their babies dressed up for spring not only provides a welcome distraction but also sparks hope and strengthens the bond between parents/caregivers and their little ones during their NICU journey.”

Children’s Hospital Colorado said the NICU is currently caring for an adorable lineup of little warriors, including two sets of twins.
