Vandalism investigation underway, one arrested in connection to cemetery theft

LINCOLN COUNTY, Tenn. (WHNT) — The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), is investigating after multiple gravestones were vandalized at the Lincoln Cemetery.

According to LCSO, the incident happened on the night of May 8th or the morning of May 9th.

Deputies say that three gravestones were vandalized and track marks from a vehicle were found. The vandalism cost is around $15,000 or $5,000 for each gravestone.

According to LCSO, there have also been flower arrangements that have been stolen from Kelso Cemetery, Kirkland Cemetery, and Wright’s Cemetery. Terry Joe Johnson, of Kelso, Tennessee, was arrested in connection to the Kelso Cemetery thefts.

Deputies do believe that more people are involved in the thefts.
