Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank wants to stock shelves during nationwide one-day food drive
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank says donations are wanted for a one-day food drive happening this month.
The Stamp Out Hunger food drive hosted by the National Association of Letter Carriers and food banks is happening on Saturday, May 11.
“This food drive comes at a critical time for your Food Bank as our shelves are quite depleted heading into the summer months when we know demand for food assistance will be high,” said Mike Manning, President and CEO of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.
This nationwide food drive started in 1993 with the goal of filling “shelves of food banks in cities and towns across the United States by engaging the public to donate nonperishable food items by placing bagged items at their mailbox for pick up by mail carriers,” according to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.
If you do not get a Stamp Out Hunger paper bag, you can fill up any bag or container with canned food items.

“As children finish up school, they will be unable to access school lunch programs during the summer which means we will see the increase in demand at our local pantries,” said Manning. “This drive plays a vital role in giving us a head start on stocking the Food Bank’s shelves for those difficult summer months ahead.”
