Lidl Is Selling a $20 Dutch Oven—But Not for Long

This season's best meals are often slow roasted to perfection, which means that a heavy cast-iron, enameled Dutch oven is a must have for rich one-pot stews and casseroles and other roasted dishes we can't get enough of. If you've been in the market for a new Dutch oven, there are a few models we have our eye on—like Le Creuset's new Mickey Mouse collection—but none are priced as ridiculously low as the new cast-iron oven heading to Lidl's grocery stores this month.

Lidl, another budget-friendly German grocer that is often compared to Aldi, is slowly releasing details about the special gifts appearing in stores for the holidays. The first seasonal item to hit shelves could be the best bargain we'll see this year—a Dutch oven designed for roasting priced at just $19.99.

You may think that Lidl's discounted Dutch oven won't perform as well as other leading brands on the market, but consider the $20 price point—plus, the shallow roasting oven is enameled and is also made of cast iron, similar to Le Creuset or Staub models. If you were to put these ovens side by side, you could mistake them for one another: Lidl's version is finished in a lovely red ombré hue, bearing striking similarity to one of Le Creuset's signature colors, Cerise.

More holiday deals you need to see to believe:

Lidl's $20 cast-iron oven is designed to heat food evenly in both electric and gas ovens, safe to use in ceramic heaters as well as on outdoor grills. Cast iron is extremely durable and can last a lifetime with good care, which is why many popular Dutch ovens sell anywhere between $200 and $375.

Shoppers who are lucky enough to live near one of Lidl's 50 locations across the mid-Atlantic region can get their hands on this roasting oven starting October 17. You'll have to hurry to your local store, though, as supply is limited and most likely will sell out by the end of the holiday season.

And if you don't live near a Lidl just yet, don't fret—the supermarket chain, which operates nearly 11,000 stores in 28 countries, has recently focused on expansion across the East Coast. In September, they opened three new stores in North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland. Later this year, those living in the greater New York City area will be able to shop at Lidl's first New York location, located within the Staten Island Mall.
