LGBTQ-owned businesses are growing in San Diego
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Four years after the COVID-19 pandemic, every state in the United States saw a growing trend in new businesses opening last year when compared to both 2022 and pre-pandemic levels, according to a recent report by Yelp.
The number of minority-owned businesses also grew last year, with San Diego placing fourth in the top five metropolitan areas that saw a rise in LGBTQ-owned business openings. According to Yelp, the number of LGBTQ-owned businesses grew 48% from the year before in San Diego.

This comes as no surprise after San Diego was named one of the most LGBTQ-friendly metro areas in the U.S. by Clever Real Estate.
The other four cities on the list included Orlando, Fla. (72%), Philadelphia, PA. (67%), Washington, D.C. (55%) and Boston, Mass. (38%).
The national average increase in total new business openings last year was 20%, with 29% being LGBTQ-owned, 28% being Latinx-owned, 24% being Black-owned, 17% being women-owned and 16% being Asian-owned.
