County Of Wayne Shuttle Service (C.O.W.S.) proposed

There is now a serious problem with public transportation from Shortline bus company because after cutting back service during COVID citizens of Honesdale are stranded here with no departures on Saturday or Sunday until 2 p.m.

My solution to this is that several of the 36 vehicles the Wayne County Transportation System has should become C.O.W.S. Yes, County Of Wayne Shuttle Service.

Two vehicles could depart when Shortline bus does every hour or so. One vehicle could shuttle all the public to and from Honesdale to Hawley, say to the bandstand or to the Silk Mill study center. Next the shuttle could return once again to the Fred Miller pavilion (in Honesdale). Efficient public transportation at its best!

The second C.O.W.S. shuttle service could depart from the mall in Carbondale which has the Weis Market and whatever else. From Carbondale, the COLTS, County of Lackawanna Transit System vehicles are available to anyone and will take you anywhere on that route which may be all the way to Scranton.

If you read this and like this idea stop by the Earl Simons Senior Center on 10th Street, Honesdale and ask to speak with Joni Stark. She is interested in hearing what the public needs and wants to improve the transportation system we are so fortunate to have funded by the Pennsylvania Lottery.

Let's roll, everybody.

— Kathy Sheppard, Honesdale
