LeFlore County teen accused of killing child in drunk driving crash pleads not guilty
POTEAU, Okla. (KNWA/KFTA) — An Oklahoma teen accused of killing a child in a drunk driving crash in LeFlore County pleaded not guilty on Monday, according to court documents.
Miguel Reyes, 18, of Heavener, was arrested on April 14 on first-degree manslaughter, driving while under the influence of alcohol, and reckless driving.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Reyes was driving eastbound on US-270 near 250th Avenue in Howe on April 14.
The crash report said Reyes was driving under the influence of alcohol when he hit a 4-year-old pedestrian. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

On April 16, prosecutors filed a motion asking the judge to “strengthen” Reyes’ bond from $75,500, saying they believed he was a flight risk due to having close contacts in Mexico. Prosecutors claimed Reyes had potential plans to flee to Mexico.
On the same day, Reyes’ attorney filed a motion asking the judge to reduce his bond, saying Reyes was not a threat to society or a flight risk.
The judge decided on Monday to keep Reyes’ bond at $75,500 and added the requirement of wearing an ankle monitor or GPS tracker.
The judge also added additional bond requirements on Monday saying Reyes will not be allowed to drive, contact the victim’s family, use any intoxicating substances, and may not leave the state of Oklahoma.
Reyes’ next court date is set for July 25 in the LeFlore County District Court.
