Lee County man sentenced to 15 years in prison for meth distribution

LEE COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — A Lee County man was sentenced to 15 years in Virginia prison for the distribution of methamphetamine.

The Commonwealth Attorney for Lee County, H. Fuller Cridlin, announced on Wednesday that Austin Surgener was sentenced by the Lee County Circuit Court to serve 15 years.

After the term of active incarceration, Surgener will be placed on indefinite supervised probation, a release stated.

“The 15-year sentence to serve reflects the serious harm that methamphetamine distribution causes in our community,” Cridlin said in a release. “We will continue to pursue high-volume traffickers and seek lengthy periods of incarceration in all such cases.”

The case against Surgener was initiated after a search of his room at the Jonesville Motor Lodge on Aug. 26, 2023. The sheriff’s office found 25 grams of methamphetamine packaged for distribution, $900 cash and a firearm, according to the release.

Surgener was linked to additional drug activity resulting in more charges after an investigation by the Southwest Virginia Drug Task Force in collaboration with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.
