Lebanon schools receive fourth bomb threat

Apr. 26—Lebanon Community Schools again received an emailed bomb threat Friday morning.

It was the fourth since March 13, and authorities deemed it not credible, as they did the three previous threats.

Friday's threat was sent to the school superintendent and to The Lebanon Reporter by an unknown person. It did not name a specific school, but it listed the home addresses of three school board members.

The email referred to its targets as "child abusers, groomers, pedophiles and other degenerates pushing your woke ideology on our children ..."

The sender of the email added that "we will XXXXing kill you if we have to."

It also referred to a single student and made an added threat, stating, "... we'll do more than just put bombs in [their] house." The sender went on to threaten to kill that student and their family.

Previous threats were far shorter and less specific.

"The Lebanon Schools Police with assistance of the Boone County Sheriff's Office, Lebanon Police Department, and Joint Terrorism Task Force, do not perceive the message to be credible," the district said in a statement sent to parents on Friday.

The Joint Terrorism Task Force is a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Indiana State Police.

Boone County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Mike Beard said Friday his department has asked to assist school police, but is not part of the investigative team.

"If they called us, we would be there in a heartbeat, but we haven't received that call," Beard said. "We'd like to help."

The district also put extra safety measures into place after the threats made April 9 and 10, the statement said. Among the precautions implemented, school resource officers scan the buildings before leaving for the day and report to the schools early to check overnight video for suspicious activity.

The Lebanon School district encourages anyone concerned about student or staff safety to notify the Lebanon School Police or text the anonymous tip line by entering their school's keyword at 847411, or to call 911.
