LEBANON COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) – A Lebanon County man died by suicide on Wednesday hours before a verdict was expected in his child abuse trial.

The Lebanon County District Attorney’s office says Brian Hungler of North Lebanon Township was facing multiple felonies after an infant was found with “serious injuries” to its brain, ribs, and legs.

Hungler was out on bail after the charges were filed in May 2022 and faced a trial that began on April 22, 2024.

The District Attorney’s office says Hungler was found unresponsive in his home early Wednesday morning and declared deceased at Hershey Medical Center.

“Our Office will never be deterred from prosecuting and convicting child killers and child abusers. We will always pursue justice for victims of abuse and violence, even when their perpetrators choose suicide over accountability and facing the consequences of their own actions,” said District Attorney Pier Hess Graf.
