Lauren Conrad on Moving Back to Laguna Beach: "I Never Really Left"
As Dorothy Gale once said, "There's no place like home." We can try to fight it, we can try to deny it, but ultimately, the nostalgic pull to our provenance can be too enticing to resist—especially if you starred on a hit reality TV show named after where you grew up. Just ask Lauren Conrad. The former Laguna Beach star-turned-fashion designer, and new mom to son Liam, has recently made the executive decision to flee the hills of Los Angeles for the idyllic seaside city where she was born, bred, and groomed into a mid-aughts cultural icon.
"There's a lot more going on in L.A., but for everyday life it's easier to get out of the city," she told InStyle at the opening of the Kellogg's NYC café in New York's Union Square, where the budding lifestyle guru partnered with the cereal brand to create three menu items, including the Instagram-worthy "Make Me Blush" bowl, with fresh strawberries, strawberry powder, and gummy bears (because why not?).
"I've actually had a place [in Laguna Beach] for eight years. I would go there every weekend, then weekends turned to three days out of the week, then four, and eventually I just decided to move back." It's understandable why, with its year-round good weather, picturesque views, and her and husband William Tell's parents on standby to offer a helping hand with their newborn. "I have an amazing support system," she said.

As for the rest of Conrad's high school crew—Lo Bosworth, Stephen Colletti (Stephaaan!), and Trey Phillips among them—most have yet to settle down. "I'm actually the first to have a kid," Conrad said. "I think I made a move that was inevitable for a lot of my friends. I'm just one of those people that really loves where I grew up. I never really left."
