Second fire sparks at Blue Ridge Fiberboard plant in Danville

UPDATE: 5/14 at 6:40 A.M. DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Firefighters in Danville were dispatched back to the Blue Ridge Fiberboard plant after a second fire ignited on Monday night.

On May 12, the Danville Fire Department first responded to 250 Celotex Drive after the storage area outside the plant went up in flames. Units worked on the scene for about six hours until the fire was extinguished.

However, crews were called back to the plant on May 13.

Once on the scene, firefighters discovered the remnants of finished board products from the previous day were on fire again.

Crews quickly controlled the blaze and plant workers helped move the products to uncover smoldering remains.

The fire department says the plant workers stayed on the scene to monitor the area overnight.

The cause of the first fire remains under investigation.

Around 2:44 p.m. on Sunday, firefighters responded to 250 Celotex Drive. Upon arrival, units discovered the flames in the outside storage area of the plant. The fire was found where the finished board products were stacked and stored.

Firefighters used water from onsite hydrants and plant personnel assisted units with moving the stacked materials.

The fire department said crews battled the blaze for about six hours, due to the amount of material.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
