Another arrest made in connection with fatal Lake Charles drive-by shooting

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KLFY) — The 5th suspect in a fatal shooting was arrested in Beaumont.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reported they are investigation a drive-by shooting in which one woman was killed.

CPSO said deputies responded to W. Tank Farm Road in Lake Charles in regards to a shooting around 7:45 p.m. on Saturday. Upon initial investigation, officials said a drive-by shooting occurred with multiple rounds being fired. One of the bullets traveled through a nearby residence, a struck a woman inside.

The victim, Annette D. Touvell, 65, of Lake Charles, was taken to a local hospital where she later died. Further investigation into the incident revealed another home in the area was also struck, but no one inside the home was injured.

On March 4, CPSO detectives received a report in reference to a 17-year-old juvenile who had stolen a family member’s car and had not returned it. It was discovered the same car was used during the shooting, authorities said.

Detectives said there were four suspects in the vehicle: two 17-year-old juveniles, Jordan L. Jones, 18, of Lake Charles and Tyler D. Lewis, 25, of Bridge City, Texas.

Authorities said the mother of one of the juveniles, Chelsea R. Hyatt, 36, of Sulphur, had been notified her daughter was involved in the shooting but failed to report it to law enforcement. Hyatt, along with the two 17-year-old juveniles and Jones, were arrested Tuesday. Hyatt and Jones were booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. The two juveniles were booked into the Juvenile Detention Center.

Jones was charged with second degree murder on $2 million bond. Hyatt was charged with obstruction of justice, bond was set at $100,000.

One of the 17-year-olds was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, the other with accessory after the fact to second degree murder.

Detectives issued a warrant for Lewis’ arrest on the charge of principal to second degree murder with bond set at $1 million. On Monday, CPSO detectives received a tip in reference to Lewis possibly being in the Beaumont area. Detectives made contact with the Beaumont Police Department and Lewis was taken into custody and booked into the Jefferson County Jail.
