Lake Alfred city commissioner resigns after child porn arrest
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Lake Alfred city commissioner who was arrested last week on child porn charges has resigned.
Charles Lake, 90, was arrested Thursday after he was accused of possessing 300 images and videos of child pornography.
“Please accept this letter as my formal resignation from the City Commission,” Lake wrote in a letter to Mayor Nancy Daley dated April 23. “I am resigning from the Office of City Commissioner for the City of Lake Alfred, effective immediately.”
Detectives served a search warrant at Lake’s home and interviewed him. He admitted to having child porn on his computer and said they could find more on a flash drive in his office, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Lake’s arrest report summarizes his conversation with detectives. He told them he stumbled upon child porn after clicking on lewd images of women and “transvestites,” which he claimed redirected him to the illegal content.
Detectives reported finding 300 images and videos depicting sexual abuse of children as young as two years old on a flash drive marked “XXX.” He allegedly admitted to looking at the photos several times a month for sexual “excitement.”
