Kylie Jenner claps back at people who think her makeup brushes are too pricey

Kylie Jenner has yet to confirm whether she’s expecting a baby in the new year, but there’s no doubt that the 20-year-old has been keeping busy. Leading up to the holiday season, Jenner has had a number of launches for her makeup brand Kylie Cosmetics, introducing three completely new products.

As part of a departure from her infamous lip kits, she’s unveiled a collection of lipstick bullets, a range of concealers, and most recently, a set of 16 makeup brushes for $360 — and despite being the gift that keeps on giving, fans are not pleased.

Immediately following announcements on the brand’s official Instagram page, fans voiced their displeasure with the brush set and its high price.

“The price of these brushes is ridiculous,” one follower quickly pointed out, while others have gone further to lay out their expectations of brushes with that price tag. “For 360 dollars I want the bristles to be made out of Kim’s hair,” someone hilariously commented, among others who named alternative brushes known for their amazing quality at a low price.

From Wet n Wild to the highly revered Morphe brushes, fans provided these more affordable, good quality brush sets as comparisons to Jenner’s. But the reality star herself clapped back with a series of tweets.

“Real brushes don’t compare to synthetic brushes,” Jenner wrote. “Different performance/quality/everything. I am 100% down to do an entire synthetic line in the future which will ultimately be cheaper.”

Providing the reasoning behind her most expensive launch to date, Jenner revealed to fans that her brushes are made with real hair instead of synthetic bristles. In an attempt to mollify any anger about the quality and pricing, the makeup mogul may have inadvertently caused more upset by acknowledging a big reason why some say they can no longer support her brand.

To answer further questions about the price, Jenner posted other brush bundles priced similarly to her own to show that $360 is seemingly average for brushes with real bristles.

But Jenner’s tweet resulted in further attacks for comparing her brand to the likes of Kevyn Aucoin, Artis and MAC. People were quick to point out that the price was the only standard of comparison evident by the screenshots, saying that it didn’t seem to make sense to compare long-standing, high-end brands with 2-year-old Kylie Cosmetics.

It seems like Jenner’s first attempt at luxury products might have missed the mark with her young followers. But fans remain appreciative of the fact that she’s hearing them out.
