[1] Crews respond to fire south of Roswell –  A large fire is burning in Chaves County south of Roswell near the Roswell Air Center. The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office is saying the fire has the potential to produce deadly gases. Law enforcement is asking residents to stay clear of the area. The City of Roswell says no evacuations are necessary at this time but residents are asked to shelter in place.

[2] Albuquerque grandmother speaks out about shooting intruder in her home – An Albuquerque woman who shot a man who was running from police is speaking out. Video from March shows 32-year-old Joseph Rivera entering Anissa Tinnin’s yard around 9:30 p.m. while fleeing from police. He entered the home and demanded keys for a car before stealing a key fob, attempting to take her car. After coming back inside the house Tinnin shot Rivera. Police took him into custody and he faces burglary and car theft charges. He will remain behind bars until trial.

[3] Quieter weather Friday, before Saturday storm – Friday morning is chillier than earlier in the week, with temperatures falling into the 30s, 40s and 50s. Skies will be mostly sunny, but clouds will move into central and northwest New Mexico this afternoon and evening. Showers will be possible in the Four Corners, near Farmington and Durango. Rain will continue to build into western and central New Mexico overnight. The next storm will move in Saturday, bringing more widespread showers and thunderstorms to central, western and northern New Mexico.

[4] Clovis Walmart to reopen on Friday – After a fire broke out at the Clovis Walmart last year, the store will be celebrating its grand reopening Friday. The event will include thank you gifts for the first responders who handled the fire. Jimmy Guillen is accused of starting the fire after video shows him with multiple propane canisters near the gardening area.

[5] City officials holding ‘Let’s Plant Albuquerque’ event – The City of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation Department is celebrating Arbor Day Friday with its ‘Let’s Plant Albuquerque’ event at Civic Plaza. The department is planting eight trees near Civic Plaza in downtown Albuquerque and giving away 50 trees for community members to plant themselves.
