Horseheads grad Eva Koratsis hit her 2nd home run of the season for Fordham softball, as the Rams spilt a double-header with Corning’s Elyssa DeRosa and George Mason. In a clash of local natives, Corning’s DeRosa kicked-off Friday’s double-header with a (2-3) performance at the plate. The Hawks’ alum’s effort helped the Patriots to a 2-0 win in game 1. In the nightcap, Koratsis homered to open an explosive 4th inning for the Rams. The 5-run frame helped Fordham to a 10-0 win to close the night. Koratsis and DeRosa are set for another meeting on Saturday at noon.

Several states to the north, another pair of local softball standouts collided on the diamond. Elmira grad Sarah Coon led the Virginia Cavaliers to Villanova for a matchup with Horseheads grad Tess Cites and the Wildcats. Sarah Coon opened the scoring on the day, grounding out to score a run for the Cavs. The effort helped Virginia to a 5-2 victory in the 1st of 2 matchups, this weekend. Cites turned in a (2-3) performance at the plate, with a walk.

Cites and the Wildcats host 13th ranked Missouri on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Following the ranked battle, Villanova will once again welcome Coon and Virginia for a 1 p.m. game.
