Kokomo purchases $1.3M rescue truck for Station 1

May 22—Kokomo Fire Department's Station 1 will receive a new rescue truck.

The Kokomo Board of Public Works and Safety on Wednesday approved the purchase of a $1.3 million Rosenbauer rescue truck from St. Louis-based Sentinel Emergency Solutions.

The truck is expected to take approximately 690 days, or nearly two years, to be built, Kokomo Fire Chief Paul Edwards said.

When it arrives, it will replace the 14-year-old rescue truck at Station 1, which is located at 215 W. Superior St., in downtown Kokomo.

At that time, the old truck will be put in reserve and used on an as-needed basis as a backup, Edwards said.

Still to be decided is where exactly the money to pay for the new rescue truck will come from.

Wes Reed, director of development and Board of Works member, said the two-year build time will give the city the opportunity to "save up" money for the purchase.
