Knox County veterinarian charged with having sex with animal

FREDERICKTOWN, Ohio (WCMH) — A Knox County veterinarian has had his license suspended after being accused of having sex with an animal.

A 66-year-old man was arrested at a home on Knox Lake Road late March 31 on one count of sexual conduct with an animal and two counts of domestic violence, according to Mount Vernon Municipal Court records. He has pleaded not guilty and was released the next day with a temporary protective order in place.

In a recording of a call to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, a family member claimed the suspect was caught having sex with another family member’s pony. After allegedly being found with the animal, the caller claimed the suspect was hitting a woman.

A person at the scene called and reported the veterinarian was drunk and physically hurting family members. Documents from the sheriff’s office showed deputies then arrived and arrested him just after midnight.

The man has been a licensed veterinarian in Ohio since 2012, according to state records. On Tuesday, the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board unanimously voted to suspend his license during an emergency teleconference. An online business profile linked to the man showed he ran his own private practice, but did not show any association with local veterinary hospitals.

Sexual conduct with an animal is a second-degree misdemeanor, first made illegal in Ohio in 2017. The man’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 29.
