Get to know Office 4 school board candidates at tonight's forum

Mar. 25—The two candidates for Office 4 on the Norman Public Schools Board of Education will face off in a forum tonight at 6:30 p.m.

Dawn Brockman and Scott Christian will field questions crafted by the League of Women Voters, who organized the forum, and questions submitted by audience members. The forum will be held at Memorial Presbyterian Church, 601 24th Ave. SW.

Brockman taught at Norman High School for 14 years, and also previously taught in Moore and Putnam City's school districts. She is now the dean of students at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, and she also holds a law degree.

Christian is a commercial lender for Prosperity Bank and co-owns a fitness studio with his wife. He is a product of NPS, attending Monroe Elementary and Whittier Middle School before graduating from Norman High School. His parents also taught in public schools.

Both Brockman and Christian have children who attended NPS. Brockman has one child who graduated from Norman North, and the other is still in school. Christian's eldest child graduated from Norman North, but his younger children switched to Christian Community School during the pandemic.

Office 4 spans roughly the area west of Flood Avenue and north of Main Street. The school board election will share a ballot with the runoff election for Ward 2 of the Norman City Council.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Alternatively, residents can vote early this Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
