“All good things must come to an end” is a saying that’s especially true for Game of Thrones fans. Now that Season 6 has come to a close, the end is nigh and we’ve been waiting with bated breath to find out how much time we have left with our favorite characters (those who are still alive, that is). Now, we have an answer.

During an interview with Deadline published on Monday, showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff officially confirmed the number of episodes we have to look forward to in the future. “It’s two more seasons we’re talking about, stated David. “From pretty close to the beginning, we talked about doing this in 70-75 hours, and that’s what we’ll end up with. Call it 73 for now.

Over the course of the past six seasons, there have been 10 episodes per season. That means we’ve watched 60 episodes thus far, which are each about an hour long. If you subtract those 60 hours from the remaining 73, then what you get is 13 hours. So, the final verdict: there are only 13 Game of Thrones episodes left – maybe 15, if they decide to go up to 75 hours.

Though we’re sad to see the ultimate end of one of the best series out there, Benioff has a great explanation for their decision to wrap things up over the course of the next two seasons. (Note: SPOILERS ahead!)

We’re trying to tell one cohesive story with a beginning, middle and end. As Dan said, we’ve known the end for quite some time and we’re hurtling towards it,” stated David. “Those last images from the show that aired last night showed that. Daenerys is finally coming back to Westeros; Jon Snow is king of the North and Cersei is sitting on the Iron Throne. And we know the Night King is up there, waiting for all of them. The pieces are on the board now. Some of the pieces have been removed from the board and we are heading toward the end game.

While it won’t be easy to say goodbye to Game of Thrones, it sounds like the show’s ending will be epic enough to console us all.
