MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Kevin Ritz, currently U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee, has been nominated by President Joe Biden to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

Ritz, a graduate of White Station High School, was sworn in as the U.S. attorney for the area in 2022 after his nomination by President Biden.

He received his his J.D. from the University of Virginia, his M.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University. He also clerked for Judge Julia S. Gibbons of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Memphis) praised Biden’s nomination of Ritz.

“Kevin was a well-respected Assistant U.S. Attorney and the office’s Appellate Chief for more than a decade before his appointment as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee, and has shown real skill in coordinating the federal law enforcement response to crime in our region. This is a thoughtfully considered nomination for an eminently qualified candidate,” Cohen said.
