Deputies: Man changed appearances in between slew of thefts

KENT COUNTY, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kent County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man in Cedar Springs after he allegedly stole from several businesses over the weekend.

According to a release from the sheriff’s office, deputies learned a man had shoplifted from from a Goodwill around 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

A deputy later found a suspect who was in possession of the stolen items and he ran away, authorities said. A bystander helped deputies find the man and he was arrested.

Deputies said their initial investigation revealed man had also stolen from other businesses, including Aldi and Meijer. The suspect is said to have changed his appearance in between each heist.

A police dog was brought in to search the area and found clothing matching the thefts from Meijer and Aldi.

The suspect’s name was not immediately released, but deputies said he was a 21-year-old man from Cedar Springs. He has been charged with retail fraud and resisting and obstructing police.
