KCFD to close open burning of hazard reduction fuels

The Kern County Fire Department announced that open burning of hazard reduction fuels will close on May 13 due to several factors, including moisture levels dropping as the weather heats up.

KCFD issued these defensible space guidelines:

• Provide a 30-foot clearance of all non-ornamental combustibles and vegetation around all structures. This includes wood piles.

• Provide a total 100-foot reduction of all non-ornamental combustibles and vegetation around all structures.

• Provide a 10-foot clearance of all combustible material around LPG and fuel tanks.

• Provide reduction of excessive accumulations of fuel that can be deemed a fire hazard.
