Kaylie Schoch wins this year's Montgomery Piano Competition

COSHOCTON − Junior Kaylie Schoch of Liberty University Online Academy was the winner of the annual Edward E. Montgomery Jr. Piano Competition, which took place recently at the Roscoe Village Foundation Visitor Center.

The daughter of Lori and Kevin Schoch of Coshocton performed Waltz, Op.70 No 1. She received a $1,000 cash award from the Montgomery Foundation.

Runner-up was sophomore Kenley Hayes of Newcomerstown High School. The daughter of Melissa and Biff Hayes performed March of the Dwarfs, Op. 54 No 3.

The finalists played on the Montgomery piano. Judges representing Coshocton County Schools were Tom Havelka, Alan English and Jane Crow. Judges from the university community were Harsha Abeyaratne from Muskingum University and Gerald K. Lee from West Liberty University. Both also performed.

Also playing on the evening were 2023 Junior Division winner Psalm Wright and upcoming musicians Lucas Stevens, Shawn Grant and Emery Stewart.
