Kansas farm animals die as fire consumes barn

ALLEN (KSNT) – Several farm animals died after a barn in northeast Kansas became engulfed in flames near the town of Allen Monday.

KSNT 27 News spoke with local Fire Chief Tharon Mott about the situation. He said a brush fire started by a farm owner in the area on Saturday, April 20 spread to his barn on Monday, April 22.

“When we arrived the barn was fully engulfed and about four pigs suffered and died in the fire,” Mott said.

Powerful winds made it difficult to fight the fire which also caused localized power outages. The outages are expected to be fixed by Tuesday, April 23.
