On this week’s show, we explore the recent spike in innocent children being “caught in the crossfire.” Damon Daniel is on the front lines of violence in the inner-city as president of the Ad Hoc Group Against Crime. We get his thoughts on the trend and the violence in Kansas City’s neighborhoods.

Alex Beineman is the Director of Program and Staff Development of CAMBER Children’s Mental Health, and shares the growth in cases of treating youth from the city who are traumatized by the violence, either as witnesses or victims.

In her view, it’s critical they be taught resilience, and that caregivers be given the tools to work with children as they deal with trauma.
