Kansas City area cities offering curbside pickup for storm debris

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — The City of Overland Park announced Wednesday it will provide curbside storm debris pickup for a limited area impacted by overnight storms Sunday.

The city said the storms damaged trees along a line of properties running southwest to northeast from 103rd and Switzer to 75th and Nall and then into Prairie Village.

The city’s contractor and Parks and Recreation Department crews will collect all tree debris at the curb in this area beginning on Tuesday, May 28.

Residents in the pickup area should place their debris at the curb before Tuesday. The city will pick up debris from both sides of the streets outlined on the map, with the exception of the east side of Nall between 78th and 87th Streets.

The City of Prairie Village is also coordinating curbside limb pickup for residents. Beginning immediately bundles of smaller fallen limbs and bagged items will be collected as part of typical yard waste collection on residents scheduled trash day.

The City of Shawnee opened a storm drop-off site Wednesday to assist property owners who are dealing with downed trees, limbs and branches.

The site located at the southwest corner of Johnson Drive and Renner Road will be open again Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday and Wednesday next week from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Unified Government of Wyandotte County said residents can also leave storm debris curbside to be picked up on their normal trash day. Leaves and grass clippings are bagged and weigh no more than 50 pounds per bag.

Tree limbs must be tied in bundles no more than four feet long and less than 50 pounds. Limbs must be four inches or less in diameter.

Residents in Wyandotte County can also take storm debris to the Recycling and Yard Waste Center at 3421 Park Drive open Thursdays – Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
