K-9 deputy with Tulare County Sheriff’s Office wins top award
CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – One of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office K-9s recently won a top award at the annual Central Valley K-9 awards dinner and fundraiser.
The sheriff’s office announced on Tuesday that members of the K-9 unit attended the third annual Central Valley K-9 awards dinner and fundraiser hosted by the Marine Corps League Fresno Detachment 014 in Clovis.
During the event officials say Deputy Juventino Torres and his K-9 partner, Turbo, won the Meritorious Protector award.
Deputies say Torres joined the K-9 unit a year ago when Turbo was new to the unit as well. Turbo who is a two-year-old Belgian Malinois is trained in narcotics detection and apprehension.
According to officials, together they have worked on cases resulting in the seizure of more than 80 pounds of drugs, $21,000 in cash and multiple guns.
Officials say during Turbo’s first year on the job he had found a six-year-old boy who ran away from his father.
