Juvenile on roller skates hospitalized after hit by vehicle in central Las Vegas valley

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A juvenile is in critical condition after he was hit by a vehicle in the central Las Vegas valley, according to Las Vegas police.

On Sunday around 8 a.m., Metro police responded to the area of East Desert Inn Road and La Canada Street near Maryland Parkway after a report of a crash involving a pedestrian.

Evidence at the scene and surveillance footage showed that a Polaris Slingshot was driving westbound on Desert Inn Road approaching the intersection when a juvenile, between the ages of 11 and 14, wearing roller skates crossed the street in a marked crosswalk.

The juvenile began crossing the street while southbound traffic had a green light however he only got halfway across the street before the east and west signals cycled to green, police said.

The driver of the Polaris’ view was blocked by a vehicle that had not begun to move yet and entered the intersection, hitting the juvenile, according to police.

The juvenile was transported to a local hospital where is was in critical condition.
