Justin Bieber Silences Screaming Beliebers

On Tuesday, Justin Bieber took a moment to talk to thousands of Beliebers during a Purpose show in Birmingham, England. He was about to tell everyone what life has been like on the road, being away from family and friends. But as with most concerts involving a 20-something-year-old idol and his adoring fans, it was hard to hear Justin because of all the screaming. So Justin proposed an idea: stop screaming while he’s talking. Easy enough, right? Nope. His proposal inspired an even louder wave of shrills and “I love you Justin!” declarations. So he got serious: “I get it, but I’m like two feet away from you. I can hear you. I appreciate your love, it’s amazing. But can you show it in a different way? The screaming is just so obnoxious.” He explained that he understands the need to scream (“it’s been in our blood”) but the alternative (“take a chill pill for a second”) is nice, too. More than anything, Justin just wants you to hear his words. “I don’t feel like I’m being heard sometimes and it gets a little frustrating. So if when I’m speaking you guys, can you not scream at the top of your lungs?”

Eventually, the crowd calmed down enough for Justin to get back to his story about life on the road. Then he thanked the “beautiful people” for keeping him company before launching into “Company.”

The Purpose Tour continues on Thursday with the first of three shows in Manchester. Fingers crossed the screaming will be more controlled then (it won’t be, but good luck to Justin anyway).
