Judge deems Bellview woman charged with kidnapping 5-year-old incompetent to proceed

The Bellview woman charged with kidnapping a 5-year-old girl in Pensacola was found incompetent to proceed in the court process on Wednesday.

Court records show that a judge found 24-year-old Miracle Myangel Armstrong incompetent to proceed with her first-degree felony kidnapping case and she will receive inpatient treatment in jail until her case can resume.

Armstrong, who allegedly kidnapped a 5-year-old girl in November, will receive inpatient mental health treatment at the Escambia County Jail for the next six months. Then she will have another hearing where the judge will determine if she is able to continue through the court process.

Armstrong is facing up to life in prison for the kidnapping charge and an additional five years on a grand theft auto charge for allegedly stealing the car used to kidnap the child.

The Escambia County Sheriff's Office issued an Amber Alert for the 5-year-old on Nov. 6, and deputies found the child alone inside of a vehicle later that same day.

Armstrong allegedly gained access to the vehicle after the girl's mother left the child in the vehicle while she went inside to retrieve an item from her boyfriend's home, according to court records. When the mother stepped back outside, her vehicle and daughter were gone.

Deputies found Armstrong the next day on Nov. 7 and booked her into Escambia County Jail.

Armstrong's next court date is set for Oct. 24 when a judge will determine if her inpatient treatment has enabled her to proceed through the court process.
