Jordan Schnitzer’s $10 million gift fuels Portland State University’s art initiatives

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland State University received a $10 million gift this week from Portland businessman, philanthropist and prolific art collector Jordan Schnitzer.

$5 million will fund construction of the Schnitzer School of Art, Art History and Design on the PSU campus slated to open in 2026, $4 million will go towards operations of the existing Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the PSU campus and the last million will pay for new signage, lighting and outdoor art at PSU.

On this week’s Eye on Northwest Politics, Schnitzer and PSU President Ann Cudd came to talk about the impact of the gift and what it means for PSU’s efforts to help revitalize the city.

Additionally, since PSU is one of three entities vying to either replace or renovate the Keller Auditorium, Cudd states how Schnitzer’s investment could give PSU a leg up in that competition.
