Joplin man's felony domestic assault case dismissed

May 22—NEOSHO, Mo. — A 47-year-old Joplin man had a felony domestic assault charge dismissed this week when his alleged victim failed to show up to testify against him at a preliminary hearing in Newton County Circuit Court.

Michael J. Corp was scheduled for the hearing Monday on a charge of second-degree domestic assault. The prosecutor's office later cited a lack of cooperation on the part of the alleged victim for dismissal of the charge.

Corp was arrested Nov. 10 after his girlfriend of six months called 911 to report that he had hit her in the face with a golf club, according to a probable-cause affidavit.

The document alleged that Corp believed she was cheating on him with another man, and an argument erupted during which he reached for a pocketknife and she grabbed a kitchen knife in self-defense. He then purportedly struck her on the jaw with a golf club.
