Jon Snow Is Dead on 'Game of Thrones,' HBO Confirms

From Harper's BAZAAR

HBO broke its silence on Game of Thrones yesterday with important details on the first episode in season six. The opening episode is titled "The Red Woman," the network announced. But more importantly, the description reads: "Jon Snow is dead. Daenerys meets a strong man. Cersei sees her daughter again."

Yikes.

HBO had so far been on lockdown regarding the upcoming season, keeping all episodes from press and reviewers to avoid spoilers and leaked material. This is the network's first time taking to such intense secrecy. The company has also been apt to bluff when it comes to releasing intel on upcoming episodes.

Even with the company's declarative words, there still might be room for hope. Devoted fans may recognize that the title is a nickname for Melisandre, the manipulating priestess played by Carice van Houten. She's suspected to have the ability to bring Snow back from the dead because earlier on the show, a fellow priest from her cult was able to revive a deceased character, Berric Dondarrion.

So does the relationship between Snow's death and the episode title hint towards a similar resurrection? If so, this season is set to start on a high note.

GoT returns on April 24 on HBO.
