...about post-vacation sickness
Feel like you get sick every time you return from vacation? My colleague Erin Donnelly breaks down her team’s reporting on why this happens and what you can do about it.
Anthony: Why do people get sick after vacation?
Erin: There are a lot of factors at play: It could be that we’re picking up bugs on the plane, or just running ourselves ragged trying to squeeze in all the things we want to do and see.
Anthony: What’s one thing I can do before going on vacation to avoid getting sick?
Erin: Set time aside to relax. One doctor told our reporter that booking lots of activities and pushing yourself too much — while neglecting things like sleep or drinking water — can come at a cost.
Anthony: And what’s something I can do while I’m on vacation?
Erin: Try to avoid crowds. Experts told us booking trips during the off-season or planning activities during off-peak hours can help. At the very least, keep your distance from anyone who appears ill.
