John Newman On Whether His Song With Calvin Harris Is About Taylor Swift

From Seventeen

Calvin Harris and Taylor Swift's split started out really amicable but turned sour as soon as Taylor was spotted making out with Tom Hiddleston in Rhode Island a little over a week later. That's why everyone assumed that Calvin's new breakup song with John Newman, "Olé," was about Taylor.

When John spoke to People about filming the music video for "Olé" with Calvin in Cabo San Lucas, he seemed to think all the speculation surrounding the song was funny. "We had great fun!" John said. "Supposedly we had a holiday where he was movin' on from his ex-missus."

That explains Calvin's Snapchat pic with a bunch of beautiful girls on a boat from a while back. Guess he was filming a video, not trying to send a message to Taylor.

When asked if "Olé" is about Taylor, John didn't give a straight answer. "It's just a breakup song," he said.

Some lyrics from the song do seem to allude to Calvin's experience with Taylor. Particularly Calvin's verse where he sings, "My heart speaks / I ain't seen you or been with you for weeks / But I see online that you've begun to be / A good girl and take trips with your boyfriend / Being attentive, continue to pretend."

But, if that verse is about Taylor, John's not going to be the one to spill the beans. "I think that's a question to ask [Calvin] because it's not my place to say, really," he told People.
