Joe Biden’s tirade at Independence Hall in Philadelphia marked a new level of desperation for his failing administration. Biden has proven incapable of uniting the country as he promised.

Accordingly, any pretense of leadership has been dropped. Democrats know they cannot run on policy, so instead, they have gone all-in on demonizing political opposition by labeling us enemies of the Republic. It is richly ironic that the party of lockdowns and mandates, the party that colludes with big-tech and the mainstream media, is alleging that we are fascists.

The voters will not buy it in November.

Outside the Beltway bubble in the real world, hard-working Americans, including Arizonans in Congressional District 2, are suffering from inflation, record-high energy costs, open borders and a spike in violent crime. Biden and his liberal allies in Washington, D.C., are uninterested in solving these serious problems.

Biden's rhetoric was inappropriate

"Too much in our country is not normal," President Joe Biden says on Sept. 1, 2022, in a 24-minute speech outside Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia. "Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic."

Standing in front of a blood-red backdrop, with Marines used as political props, Biden stated that “Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our Republic.” As a former Navy SEAL, I find Biden’s politicization of the Marines and rhetoric highly inappropriate. His statement itself is incredibly hypocritical and tone-deaf.

Democrats implemented unconstitutional vaccine mandates and forced lockdowns that purged citizens from the workforce and shuttered both businesses and schools.

From Tom O'Halleran: Arizona's future depends on leadership in Congress

The White House established a Disinformation Governance Board to attack our First Amendment and censor dissent. They even undermined the stability of the judicial branch with Democrats like Vice President Harris open to expanding the Supreme Court. The left’s unhinged rhetoric nearly led to the assassination of Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

In his address, Biden also declared, “MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution, they do not believe in the rule of law, they do not recognize the will of the people. They refuse to accept the results of a free election.”

There have long been election deniers

However, if we look back to the 2016, 2004 and 2000 elections, many on the left repeatedly called Donald Trump and George W. Bush illegitimate presidents. Their laundry list of election deniers includes Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders, Nancy Pelosi, and even Biden’s own press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre.

The view from 30,000 feet is crystal clear. Joe Biden and his enablers desperately need a distraction or political scapegoat to mask their inability to govern. Inflation remains at a four-decade high, our economy has entered a recession, fentanyl is the leading cause of death among Americans 18-45, and our enemies are emboldened abroad.

In the primary:Republican congressional winners had this in common

At our border, we need to address the surge of fentanyl, violent gang members, and the despicable crime of human trafficking run by cartels. Reinstating Remain in Mexico, increasing funding to our border patrol agents and filling gaps on the border wall will drastically reduce drug smuggling, cartel violence and human trafficking.

Properly securing the border would help stem the fentanyl crisis, which has spiked considerably in the last two years as overdoses in the first parts of 2022 hit a record over a 12-month period. Biden has not even visited the border during his presidency.

In Congress, Republicans can implement a fiscally responsible budget. While our $30 trillion in debt and rising cost of goods cannot be addressed overnight, reducing Biden’s trillions of dollars of expenditures will significantly help fight inflation.

While Democrats passed bills such as the “Inflation Reduction Act” that funds 87,000 new IRS agents over 10 years, Republicans recognize that unchecked government spending is the root cause of inflation, not a lack of revenue streams. Republicans offer a pathway to normalcy with fiscally responsible expenditures, a border-security plan to combat the fentanyl crisis and a voice of reason against Biden’s questionable agenda.

Independents and Democratic voters alike should reconsider Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi’s results and priorities as we approach the midterms.
