Jimmy Dean Just Figured Out How To Make Hash Browns Even Better

From Delish

You may know Jimmy Dean for its rolls of breakfast sausage - which are probably more famous for their role in just about every cream cheese-based party dip, ever - or its microwave-and-go breakfast sandwiches, but now, the brand's tackling all-new territory: hash browns.

These aren't your standard, frozen shredded potato bits, though. They're formed into patties, much like McDonald's, and stuffed with cheese, meat, and sometimes, chopped vegetables. As one editor put it, they're like a Hot Pocket - only with a crispy potato crust. It's the kind of "why hasn't anyone thought of this sooner?!" combination that brings to mind chicken and waffles, or the McGriddle.

The Stuffed Hash Browns come in three varieties: sausage and cheese, bacon and veggies (which comes with a mix of diced tomatoes, peppers, and onions, as well as mozzarella and cheddar cheese), and meat lovers, a blend of sausage, bacon, ham, cheddar and mozz.

When we learned the hash browns, which are sold in four-packs, were meant for the microwave, we were skeptical: So, this is going to be soggy sludge that'll inevitably ooze cheese, forcing me to scrub my microwave for hours, isn't it? But, for science - and, okay, hunger - we tested out all three flavors and were pleasantly surprised: The hash browns actually get crispy. In the microwave. And it was pretty evenly cooked, without any oozing cheese.

The sausage and cheese flavor was a little bland for our tastes, but testers loved the mix of spice, cheese, and salty bacon in the bacon and veggie version, and the meat lovers earned rave reviews from people who crave all the meats, all the time.

All three varieties are hitting grocery stores now and will be available in the frozen food section.
