JetBlue Is Flying Commercial to Cuba First for $99
JetBlue, which has already been servicing Cuba with charter flights to and from the United States, will be the first to offer regular commercial flights on August 31. One-way fares from Florida will start at $99.
American Airlines begins service on Sept. 1.
The airline announced the new flights are aimed at removing the high costs and complexity of travel to Cuba.
Its a new day for Cuba travelers and one we have thoughtfully prepared for, Marty St. George, JetBlue's executive vice president commercial and planning, said in a statement. We are proud to usher in a new era of Cuba travel with affordable fares and great service.
Flights from the Fort Lauderdale airport (FLL) in Florida to Cuba's Santa Clara (SNU) start at $99 each way. JetBlue will start with service three times a week, and then go daily on Oct. 1.
In November, JetBlue will add other airportsCamagey and Holgunand eventually also add Havana at a date to be announced.
The $99 one-way fares include health insurance required by the Cuban government.
Although restrictions have loosened, Americans must still meet specific requirements to be permitted to travel to Cuba. Travelers must fall under one of 12 approved categories.
Jetblue will be offering Cuban tourist visas for purchase at the airport when passengers check in.
