ST. LOUIS – St. Louis made its presence felt on Jeopardy! once again this week. Jeopardy! is a trivia game where contestants need to possess a broad knowledge base across various subjects.

According to Jeopardy! show archives, the question fell under the category “Hop on the Interstate” and was a Daily Double.

The contestant was an educator from Minnesota. Host Ken Jennings posed the question to contestant Sam Kavanaugh:

“Columbia is about midway between these two same-state Midwest cities that squared off in the I-70 World Series in 1985.”

Kavanaugh responded, “What are Cleveland and Cincinnati?” referring to two cities in Ohio. However, the correct answer was Kansas City and St. Louis.

This question might seem easy to sports fans and local St. Louisans, but according to geotargit.com there are actually 29 places named Columbia in America.

Forecast: Rounds of severe weather Monday near St. Louis

Despite the geographical mix-up, Kavanaugh still advanced to the semifinals and emerged victorious in Thursday’s game.

This isn’t the first instance of St. Louis featuring on Jeopardy! In a previous episode on January 19 of this season, contestants were stumped by a question about Busch Stadium. This marked at least the second time in three years that a St. Louis Cardinals-themed question left contestants scratching their heads.

Jeopardy! has been on TV for over 60 years, consistently testing contestants’ knowledge across a wide array of topics.
