Jefferson Co. considers emergency declaration following storm

JEFFERSON COUNTY (KSNT) – Jefferson County Emergency Management Manager Keith Jeffers said the county may declare an emergency if damage estimates are high enough.

On Wednesday night and early Thursday morning Jefferson County was hit with severe weather that caused damage to the north side of the county. Jeffers said he didn’t believe there was any tornado activity and that damage seemed to be caused by straight line winds.

According to Jeffers, there were smaller buildings destroyed, roofs damaged and some homeowners had to be evacuated after a propane tank rolled and was leaking into their home.

Jeffers said some areas are without power. FreeState Electric was reporting nearly 400 customers in the area without power. Jeffers confirmed reports of powerlines downed over K-16 Highway.
