Arizona Republican Sen. Jeff Flake admonished President Trump’s eldest son Wednesday over a controversial Instagram post mocking Christine Blasey Ford, the college professor who has come forward to accuse Supreme Court nominee of sexual assault when the two were high school students.

“This is sickening,” Flake wrote on Twitter in reference to Donald Trump Jr.’s post. “No one should make light of this situation.”

Trump Jr. posted a photograph of a mock note, written in crayon and approximating a child’s handwriting, that stated: “Hi Cindy, Will you be my girlfriend, Love, Brett.” The president’s son added his own caption to the photo that read, “Judge Kavanaugh sexual assault letter found by Dems…”

A frequent critic of the president’s who is serving out the last months of his Senate career, Flake is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which may hear testimony Monday from Kavanaugh and Ford to try to discern whether her accusation should imperil the judge’s appointment to the highest court in the land.

Flake also made it clear Wednesday that he does not believe that the FBI needs to investigate Ford’s claims before she testifies before the committee.

On social media, Trump Jr. pulls few punches. He frequently goes to war with those he perceives as having unfairly maligned his father. This week, for instance, that target was once again CNN, with Trump Jr. alleging that Anderson Cooper was attempting to make Hurricane Florence look worse that it was in an effort to shame the president. In fact, the photo of Cooper that Trump Jr. tweeted out was from 2008, when the CNN anchor was in Texas covering Hurricane Ike.

Trump Jr. has not yet responded to Flake.
