Are Jeep finally making a pickup?

Ever since 1992 when Jeep produced a pickup truck, people have been spouting rumor upon rumor that their beloved car was making a comeback, however their claims have been unjust, until now that is. Over the last few weeks there have been many sightings of a new Pickup, which looks very much like a Jeep Wrangler, driving around with a Chrysler engineer at the wheel. Even with the usual masking over the test car, it is clear to see that the car is a Jeep, and some photographers have taken some fantastic shots of the new car.

From the Drone images, you can clearly see the Wrangler styling, and the design has please a lot of loyal Jeep fans, as for once, the designers have not created something modern and beastly. The pickup bed is incredibly large, and that makes this a more practical truck, as there is plenty of room in the back.

Although the images prove that there is some truth in the rumors, they do not give us much to go on. Most people expect the SUV to begin production towards the end of 2017, and they expect it to be announced later on in 2018. This late launch means that the truck will most likely sport a Turbocharged inline-four, and there would most likely be the option to upgrade to a V6, but a V8 will most likely not feature, seeing as the Fuel Economy Standards for 2018 will make it incredibly hard to have an engine efficient enough on such a big truck.

It is also reported that Ford are developing a plug-in hybrid, which will be released at a later date, however that rumor is largely speculation and, as of yet, there is no proof to back these claims up.

The tell-tale square design of this prototype leaves little to the imagination, and anyone who has seen a Jeep in the past could identify this. It is a fairly large truck, with four doors, and a sizable bed, which makes it ideal for transporting goods.

From this angle you can see the front grill, and it is incredibly similar, almost identical in fact, to the current Jeep Wrangler, and the only difference really is the addition of a truck bed, however once the camouflage is taken off, and the car unveiled, I am sure that there will be some obvious differences.

Like we mentioned before, the fact that Jeep and Chrysler have decided to stick with their traditional routes is encouraging, and the new design is sure to bring back the nostalgia of riving an original Jeep. Overall, we are very happy that Jeep are finally making a Pickup, after all these years, and it gives Jeep fans something to look forwards to after the announcement of the new, non-pickup, Wrangler.
