Jacksonville ISD hires new principals, administrators

May 25—The Jacksonville Independent School District's Board of Trustees and JISD Superintendent Brad Stewart announced new administrative positions and leadership roles at three campuses for the 2024-25 school year.

"As previously announced, Jodi Alderete has taken the helm as Jacksonville High School principal and already has done a tremendous job," Stewart said. "She is eager to welcome two new positions to the JHS administrative team. Sarah Traylor has been named Associate Principal of Curriculum & Instruction and Darren Vossler, new to Jacksonville ISD, will join the JHS staff for 2024-25 as Associate Principal of Student Services. Both have master's degrees in educational administration and will be significant additions to Jacksonville High School's leadership team."

Traylor has been with JISD for 13 years and taught upper level math at JHS before being named Academic Dean in 2020. As a vital part of the JHS Administrative team for the last four years, Steward said Traylor has shown outstanding leadership abilities and extensive knowledge of curriculum and instruction.

Vossler has 10 years of experience in education and most recently served as assistant principal at Bullard High School.

At the elementary level, two campuses also have new leadership.

"After a competitive interview process, we feel the assistant principals we have in place at East Side and Joe Wright are ideal candidates to continue their leadership roles at each elementary campus," Stewart said.

After the recent move of the East Side Principal to Jacksonville High School, Shelley Cook currently serves as interim principal and has been promoted to principal at East Side Elementary. Cook is finishing her 25th year in education and eighth year at East Side. She has been a third grade teacher as well as an assistant principal while with Jacksonville ISD.

Joe Wright Assistant Principal Stephanie Hinton will take on the principal role after the retirement of longtime principal Cindy Slovacek.

Hinton is in her 20th year in education, with all 20 being in Jacksonville ISD. She began her career in 2004 as a teacher, then dean of students for Compass Center in 2013-14 and assistant principal in 2014-15. She has been the Joe Wright assistant principal since 2015-16.

"Mrs. Cook and Ms. Hinton have invaluable experience in administration and educational leadership and are eager to continue to work with the staff at their respective campuses," Steward said. "We fully believe under their leadership, the high expectations and successes on each of these remarkable campuses will continue. We are excited about these important changes and are looking forward to what each of these amazing educators brings to our district."
