ISP arrest suspect for April State Capitol bomb threat

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Illinois State Police has arrested a suspect whom they believe made bomb threats to two state buildings last month.

State Police arrested 23-year-old Gabrielle Williams on Thursday. Officials said the agency identified Williams using cellular information and conducting interviews.

“ISP and our law enforcement partners in Springfield take every threat seriously and will track down and arrest those responsible for this criminal conduct,” ISP Director Brenden Kelly said.

UPDATE: All clear given after Illinois Capitol evacuated due to threat

The Illinois Department of Human Services got a call on April 22 from an individual threatening a bomb had been installed at a public aid office building and the Illinois State Capitol. The Secretary of State Police and their Hazardous Device Unit evacuated the Capitol, while ISP and the Springfield Police secured the public aid building until the Hazardous Device Unit could clear the building.

“I want to thank our Secretary of State Police, Illinois State Police, and Springfield Police for collaborating on this investigation and making an arrest,” said Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias. “We take the security of the Capitol Complex and the safety of its employees, public
officials, and visitors extremely seriously. We will never tolerate threats of violence and will do everything within our power to hold those responsible and accountable for their actions.”

Williams is currently in custody at the Sangamon County Jail. In addition, a Clear and Present Danger Report has been filed to the State Police Office of Firearm Safety regarding Williams. If she is deemed a threat to herself or others, any FOID card Williams currently has or applied for can be revoked or denied.
