Isolated severe storms possible Tuesday in Middle TN, Southern KY

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A new week brings another risk of severe weather in Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. Even though the severe threat is low, storms could pose a risk of hail and strong wind gusts.

Tuesday is our next Weather Alert Day. The latest update from the Storm Prediction Center now has all of Middle Tennessee and most of Southern Kentucky under a Marginal Risk (level 1/5). At this time, the primary severe threats are wind gusts and hail. In general, lightning and heavy rain will accompany storms.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, we’ll first look at early Tuesday morning where rain and storms are likely on western Middle Tennessee and parts of western Southern Kentucky. These could be strong to marginally severe, but will definitely be noisy. By Tuesday morning, a few storms enter locations along I-65. This rain will continue to move east, perhaps some moderate to heavy rain in our eastern areas through the morning.

By Tuesday afternoon, rain decreasing and ending to the east. Back to the west near the TN River, some sunshine develops with a new storms forming. These will be capable of stronger wind gusts and large hail as they move east into the afternoon. These storms taper off into the evening, leaving our region with scattered showers and storms into Wednesday morning.

Once again, most of us see heavy downpours, but a few strong storms are possible.

We’ll continue to monitor the trends and advise if there is any increase in the severe weather threat.
