The invasive Japanese beetles are back

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) —

Japanese beetles threaten more than 300 varieties of plants and cost an estimated $80 million dollars in damage to local crops every year. Mesa County has seen success in past years to eradicate the pests, but the beetles are still in the grand valley.

Early spring is when Mesa County will spray for Japanese beetles in the “hot spot” regions affected. These areas vary from I-70 to downtown Grand Junction and all the way to the Redlands. There are at-home methods to help eradicate the beetles too. In late May, put Grub-X on your lawn to help kill eggs and the first instars for the next two and a half months.
