AT&T internet lines to Sacramento airport found to be ‘deliberately cut’

(FOX40.COM) — An internet outage at the Sacramento International Airport on Thursday morning is now being investigated by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s.

AT&T internet lines servicing SMF were found to be deliberately cut after repair crews were able to fix the damaged lines.

“We’ve restored internet and wireless service to affected customers in the Sacramento International Airport area following a fiber cut which appears to be an act of vandalism or attempted theft,” AT&T writes in a statement about the outage. “We appreciate the patience of our customers as we worked to make repairs as quickly as possible.”

SMF first shared about the outage over social media at around 5 a.m. stating that the internet outage was delaying flights and operations for Southwest and Delta airlines.

Southwest was able to resume departures just before 7 a.m. and just a few minutes late the airport announced Delta was no longer being affected by the outage.

It would not be until 11:35 a.m. that internet service was fully restored to the airport, but not before causing significant delays at the airports ticket counters.

Flyers are being recommended to check the status of their flight with their airline before arriving at the airport.
