Interim president named at FSCC amid leadership changes

FORT SCOTT, Kan. — It’s been a week of change at Fort Scott Community College.

During a special meeting, the college’s Board of Trustees named a new interim president. It’s Sara Sutton, who’s taught in the college’s AG department since 2018. She’ll begin her duties on July 1st.

The move comes after Dr. Jason Kegler was placed on paid administrative leave on Monday. Board Chair Bryan Holt told us there are no expectations Kegler will return to the school but wouldn’t give any more details. Instead, he talked about the future.

“We’re really looking forward to how we can position the college to be continue to be a great asset for Fort Scott Community College and for its students. And so that’s the direction we’re we’re facing now. So and we’re excited to have Sarah as the interim president,” said Bryan Holt, FSCC Board of Trustees Chair.

“Having the opportunity to work with many of our staff and faculty member. Kind of gives me a little bit of an upper leg on our culture and some of the issues that we feel are going on. And so I feel that our culture internally is one of the first things that we as an administrative team and board need to tackle,” said Sara Sutton, FSCC Interim President.

Liza Erwin was at Thursday morning’s meeting—she was named the college’s new athletic director on Monday. The announcement was also made that, due to a lack of numbers, the men’s and women’s golf, esports, and flag football programs will be suspended, but the scholarships for the next academic year will be honored.
